Git along little dogies

Posted under: American history, art, fluff

I’ve got a lot of stall-mucking and ranch maintenance to get done today–the rest of y’all “get along” now while I git along.

Speaking of dogies, this little stray shouldn’t go uncommented on, so I’ll say that I doubtless saw this worthy film on black and white t.v. at some point as a kid, and much later at least skimmed Richard White’s 1991 book on the American West, and I never made the connection between the wry book title and the clever song lyric. It’s off to Idaho for me, I guess.

Isn’t it more likely that “Wyoming will be your new home?”

(Deep inside geography joke pertaining to Indyanna’s actual state of residence.)

Yeah, we could have had a branch there, if not for the fear that some interloping *Connecticut people* would come out and demand in-state tuition. My actual state of residence is a New York State of mind, but being herded along to “one of those big square states,” like Idaho, :) was what the song put me in mind of for some reason.
