As for Democrats turning out, if enough of them are like this (former) Democrat, there won’t be a single one standing after Nov. 2.

They just don’t get that some of us are angry.

I must admit, I’m not paying any attention to the Big 0, but hearing how he can’t see half the human race with a telescope does zero for the sweetness of my disposition.

The term centrist Democrats is not clear. If it includes Blue Dog then they are hardly Democrats. If they are Bill Clinton like than their spokeswoman Anne Kim is simply wrong. Their study seems so biased to fit the groups vague goals that I would simply ignore it.

Obama’s problem is not only the enthusiasm gap but his voters’ perception of him vs the president he is not the last two years. Not only isn’t he liberal, but he in the running for the title St. Wall Street. He is the guy that let the Republican attack the proposed health care reform for a long summer without saying anything (just for that his qualification and heart should be suspect).

People will vote their pockets and those frustrate will stay home. Axelrod understands this better than most of us.

I do believe that yesterday he spoke to audience mostly of women (Forbe’s top 50 women or something?) I just saw the clip on the news because the Presedent’s seal fell off the podium.

So I do think they are targeting women, if only the rich ones!

Tom--that's a great point. Rebecca Traister had an article in The Nation recently that urged Dems to embrace their loyal women supporters, and made the same point you make about Pelosi and the connections to the demonization of right-wing women. (I think she's far too chipper about the prospect of the Dems waking up and taking care of their membership.)

Here in PA (where my so-called local tv comes from), virtually all anti-Democrat tv advertising asserts that Democrat X is a supporter of the “Pelosi agenda,” or, at best, the Pelosi-Obama agenda. The demonization of “liberal” thinking or policies through association with a white woman and a black man is striking–I can’t really think of another speaker of the house who has been used as such a clear lightning rod before, though Newt Gingrich undoubtedly spawned a few Democratic campaign commercials, too. But one wonders if appealing to women voters is a less attractive strategy for Democrats than ever because of a kind of anti-liberal-woman backlash. The flip side of your discussion of tea party women?
