They keep hoping that Lucy will let them kick the football *this time.* They don't have the courage of their own convictions. How hard would it be to run against the Bush regime of incompetent and/or evil clowns, and Bush himself ("Mr. 23%")? I'd like a little less loyal and a lot more OPPOSITION myself. Speaking as a Democrat, of course! I hope Obama will deliver, and offer another vision of Democrats as competent, strong, and compassionate. That's how I think they think of themselves, anyway. You have to hand it to the Republicans: even when they've screwed the pooch and they're out of ideas, they press their agenda aggressively. I keep going back to what Bob Somerby at the Daily Howler keeps asking: do Dems want to win? (Not just in elections, on policy too.) They sure don't act like it. I fear that they are back to their old tactics on this one, causing the country to panic with their cries of "it must be done immediately" which is really just a way to say we want the bill we want, no changes, no accountability. That way, if congress tries to put the breaks on, step back and consider what is really happening, they will be labeled unpatriotic. How did we get here?
